Fredrick Martin Retzolk, Jr. of Denton, MD, passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, April 4, 2024. He was 71 years old.
Born on October 21, 1952 in Champaign-Urbana, IL, Martin was the son of the late Fredrick and Ruth Retzolk. He grew up in a career Army family and lived all over the United States. But he loved one place and that was El Paso, Texas, one of his father’s duty stations at Fort Bliss. On his own he spent most of his adult life there. Martin was a skilled architect/engineering CADD technician and loved his profession and continued on his own for several years. He loved comedy, especially good jokes and could tell them like a pro. He will be missed by those who loved and appreciated him.
Martin is survived by his wife of 41 years, Lenore H. Retzolk; his sons, Michael J. Alexander (Melanie) and Ryan L. Alexander (Jennifer); daughters Shannon Atkinson (Steven) and Heidi Brefeld. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kristy L. Gingerich (Justin), Joseph M. Alexander, Lisa M. Corney (Andrew Birtwistle), Michael L. Alexander, Katelyn L. Alexander, Allison J. Alexander and Braden J. Alexander, Matthew; Christopher, Andrew, and Patrick Sixt, and Benjamin and Gabrielle Wickersham. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren: Amelia, Zoe, Gabrielle, Zeal and Justice Gingerich, and Nathaniel and Hailey Birtwistle, and nieces Mindy Ehrenfried (Jason Brook), Christina Box-Keeling (Eric), and Carla Long. Also, nephews Kelland D. Ehrenfried (Kelly), Dustyn T. Ehrenfried, and Leland N. Ehrenfried. In addition to his parents, Martin is preceded in death by a son, Christopher S. Alexander, and his sister, Joyce Box.
At Martin’s request, there will be no service. A family celebration will be held at a later date. If friends wish to send a memorial donation in Martin’s memory, the family suggests sending it to Moore Funeral Home, P.A, 12 South Second Street, Denton, MD 21629.
