Jean L. Kelly of Greensboro passed away on March 18, 2024 at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton. She was 86 years old.
Jean was born on September 25, 1937 in Wilmington, DE to Myra Anthony Kelly and John Carter Kelly. In her youth, she and her parents lived in both New Castle, DE and Delray Beach, FL, where Jean graduated from Seacrest High School. Following graduation, Jean held a number of jobs in the banking and finance industries in both Wilmington and Philadelphia. Upon relocating to Greensboro in 1973, Jean worked as a Fiscal Clerk for the Caroline County Department of Social Services, retiring in 2007 after over 30 years of service.
A lifelong lover of history, Jean began researching her family genealogy in the mid-1970s. This hobby soon became a passion, and Jean was a trusted source of information about local history. She was an active member and former officer of the Caroline County Historical Society and the Upper Shore Genealogical Society of Maryland, as well as many other historical organizations. On most weekends, she could be found at local historical events or volunteering at the USGS Research Center.
Jean is survived by her daughter Carol K. Brown, her son-in-law Sean H. Brown, and her granddaughter Miranda C. Brown, all of Ridgely, as well as numerous friends and extended family members.
In accordance with Jean’s wishes, the burial will be private. In leiu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to either Caroline County Historical Society (PO Box 514, Denton, MD 21629) or Compass Regional Hospice (160 Coursevall Drive, Centreville, MD 21617).
